Our research is mainly focused on the strategy
and organization in product development of
video games.
First step was the case study in order to
formulate the hypothesis on the key factor
for success in this industry. We interviewed
with presidents or representatives of product
development at fourteen major Japanese software
companies in 1998-1999.
Second step was questionnaire survey for
verifying our hypothesis. We are analyzing
the response from eighty-five firms. Third
step is the comparative study between the
Japanese game software firms and the US ones.
Our research questions are as follows:
1) How a firm in the industry finds talented
video game creators and make sure that they
will stay with the firm?
2) Which of the following two is the better
strategy of human resources management?
- a long term and stable employment style
- a short term and flexible style
3) Is there any meaningful relationship between
managerial styles and types of games that
a firm focuses on producing?
